The 4th of July is Independence Day and a biiiig holiday for all Americans. The biggest celebration is in Boston, at least Bostonians think so and they might be right. The highlight of the celebrations is the the Boston Pops concert, a big symphony orchestra which performs popular music like stuff from movies, pop melodies but also some classical tunes. The concert is in a beautiful setting on the banks of the Charles River and for free. This might be the reason why the area gets closed at mid-morning every year while the concert is at 8pm. The concert culminates in huge (and I mean huge) fireworks which are set off from a boat on the river. Along with 500.000 other people we made our way to the Cambridge side of the Charlie River, close to the MIT, and watched the fireworks from a safe distance. Because I forgot my camera I had to steal pictures from flickr...
You can maybe guess it from thep pictures: From the numerous explosions, a massive cloud of smoke was hanging over the river. So massive that some of the fireworks were completely hidden in it and spheres look liked half-spheres because of exactly that ;-)

Geniale Bilder... das "berühmte" Fluss in Flammen in MD fiel einfach mal sang- und klanglos heute aus... In allen Blättern a la Dates und Co stand es drin.. aber nix war los...einfach ausgefallen...

Hey Jona, na da hab ich ja jetzt endlich wieder etwas zu tun in der Mittagspause und hoffe auf interessante Berichte:) Hab am Freitag wenigstens die Eröffnung der Amerikanischen Botschaft in Berlin verfolgt mit Nationalhymne, aber wäre natürlich auch gern im Amiland gewesen!
Christin: es stand ein kleiner Artikel im Generalanzeiger, dass "Fluss in Flammen" ausfällt! Sponsoren sind zurückgetreten und Stadt hat es nicht unterstützt:/ Naja, dafür haben die Amis wieder alles in die Luft geballert:)
